SILCHAR: The house of a former BJP MLA’s sister was allegedly attacked here was allegedly attacked here by AIUDF supporters on Wednesday.
According to sources, a mob consisting of AIUDF members allegedly attacked the house of former deputy speaker and BJP’s Sonai candidate Aminul Haque Laskar’s sister. An FIR has been registered stating that about 25 people carried jars filled with petrol and tried to set the house on fire, but fled before police reached the spot.
Laskar, who lost in the recently concluded assembly polls against AIUDF’s Karim Uddin Barbhuiya by a margin of nearly 20,000 votes, alleged that the miscreants belonging to AIUDF pelted bricks and stones inside the house of his sister Jahanara Begam Chaudhury at Sonai Road and caused heavy damage. However, no one was injured.
A senior police official said, “Soon after receiving the report of the incident, cops from Rangirkhari town outpost under Silchar police station rushed to the spot. However, the miscreants had fled by then.” Three AIUDF members have been arrested by the police in connection with the case. They were produced before a Silchar court and were sent to custody. Silchar’s newly-elected BJP MLA Dipayan Chakraborty condemned the incident.
