GUWAHATI: Four-time Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Friday resigned from the assembly membership amid talks of moving to BJP.
The young leader, who has been representing Mariani constituency in Assam’s Jorhat district after death of his mother and former Congress minister Rupam Kurmi, submitted his resignation to assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary.
He said he’s leaving the Congress party because the top leadership does not listen to the voice of young leaders and targeted Rahul Gandhi for this.
“The Congress completely ignores its young leaders. This has led the party in the state to the brink of collapse,” he said.
