GUWAHATI: The Delhi Police busted a fake call centre, which was fraudulently operating and had duped the people of the northeast through “online shopping and fraud foreign gifts”, in Rohini, New Delhi, on Saturday and arrested 20 people involved in the racket.
Police said Delhi Cyber Crime lead Kuldeep Shekhawat, along with his team and cyber expert Gaurav Vats, a core member of ‘Helping Hands’ NGO which is run by Robin Hibu, an IPS officer from Arunachal Pradesh posted in Delhi, raided the center which was operational in Sector 6, Rohini, Delhi.
“This call center operated with around 20 people who were conning innocent people most of whom were from NE. The modus operandi of this call center was to give a lucrative scheme to their customers by offering mobile phones which cost around Rs 20,000 for just Rs 4,500. What’s more, customers can pay the money using cash-on-delivery method. To show as an authentic deal, they used India Post as their logistics service provider and sent a local wallet/belt instead of the phone,” Hibu said.
He added, “When a customer tries to recontact, they stop responding.”
