Police intensify drive against illicit liquor trade in upper Assam districts | Guwahati News

[ad_1]

DIBRUGARH: Following the state government’s instruction to dismantle country liquor (Sulai) manufacturing units, police in upper Assam have intensified their drive against illicit liquor trade.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier claimed that crowding of people around the country liquor shops had been a major factor in the spread of the virus.
Intensifying their drive against illicit liquor trade, police in upper Assam districts of Dibrugarh, Sivasagar and Tinsukia have demolished scores of hooch manufacturing units and have destroyed thousands of litres of country liquor over the past one week. The three upper Assam districts had registered high caseload during the second wave of the pandemic.
